How’s that New Year’s Resolution Going?

Read it in a Year

God’s Word

Do you make New Year’s Resolutions?  I do.  This year I decided to read through the Bible in a year.  In December our church made a One Year Bible Reading Plan available to us.  The Reading Plan gives Scripture references and there are only a few chapters for each daily assignment . . . a couple of chapters in the Old Testament, then the New Testament and then some verses from Psalms and Proverbs.  I’ve tried to do this before and have always given up when I get to the Book of Leviticus.  Well, I am currently in that book and only have 3 chapters left before moving on to the next book, Numbers, so I’m still on track!  I love God’s Word and am learning even more about this wonderful guidebook for living.  To make my reading even more interesting I’m reading from this wonderful version called The Holy Bible Illustrated in Calligraphy by Timothy R. Botts and Tyndale House Publishers.  The calligraphy is beautiful and adds to the text keeping my interest.  I’m determined to make it – I’ll share a favorite verse now and then through the year:

Oh God, we give glory to you all day long and constantly praise Your name.

Psalm 44:8

So Thankful for That Man of Mine!

Paul 2015

I’ve pinned your picture to the space upon my office wall

This winter storm around you . . . just seems to say it all

No matter what our lot has been, through good times and the sad

You’ve been the greatest friend to me, sweet husband and fine dad

Those steely eyes of blue speak peace, integrity so strong

Accepting good and bad alike – and knowing right from wrong

Of all the people that I’ve known, including mom and dad,

Your steadfast faith directs my path and makes my heart so glad

You are what God’s Word says to men – Ephesians Chapter Five

How others would be wise to walk and in that wisdom strive

So, thanks a lot sweet man of mine – I praise God for His plan

When God created you, my dear, He made an awesome man!

From the Over-Achiever in me . . . to the Over-Achiever in you

1 Peter 2:24 NIV

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to our sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.

 What is Wrong With ME?

Why does it seem to me – I am always set-aside,

Over-stepped, under loved, and thought unqualified?

Is it lack of learning or immaturity?

Or is it just my doubt of self and incongruity?

These are weighty questions and things that cause concern

The never-to-be answered thoughts that others shirk and spurn

Another is promoted or asked to do a task,

When I could do it also, if only they would ask.

My problem is I want to be EVERYTHING to all

Forget if it’s my forte’, forget that it’s my call

I simply want to be your friend, your wife, your mom, your child

Your boss, your help-extraordinaire, your go-fer meek and mild

I love the praise and accolades, attention, spoken name

My ego gets a great-big-boost with every thought of fame

Oh, Jesus! Help me Father, to set aside myself

Untangle all the hurt and harm; I put it on the shelf

And when I pick it up again, oh yes, that I will do!

this process is repeated, till I STOP and then see YOU.

And there you are just waiting for me to understand

I’ll long to do your bidding obeying each command.

Give me strength to stop attempts of longing to BE You

And help me to be Christ-LIKE, just as you tell me to

For there is just one Father, Son and Holy Ghost,

One Trinity to love and serve, I’ll be an honored host.

1 John 3:19-20 “This then is how we know that we belong to the truth, and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence whenever our hearts condemn us for God is greater than our hearts and He knows everything.”

God is greater than our hearts, and everything he knows

He set the universe in place, sees every flake of snow.

He knows our first breath, and our last, each hair upon our head

He knows those going hungry and those who are well-fed.

He knows my thoughts, my heart as well, my intent and my way

And yet he sent His Son to die…no debt have I to pay!

His grace is free to all who ask, He lets his mercies flow.

Yes! God is greater than my heart, and everything He knows.

Whatever . . .

A few years ago there was a popular saying, possibly it was among the young, but it seemed to catch on and everyone was saying . . . WHATEVER!  I’ve decided to give the word a new turn.  Scripture uses this word quite succinctly from Philippians 4:8.  I hope you will enjoy this new turn and say the word, in the future, with hope and anticipation in your heart.  Simply click on the “WHATEVER” link to read more.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow   “The love of learning, the sequestered nooks, And all the sweet serenity of books”  ― Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I’ve always loved books.  I even worked at a University Library for a few years in Indiana.  There was nothing more fun than a “shelf-read.”  That’s when the staff would walk throughout the library checking the thousands of titles to see if anything was in the wrong place.  A famous saying of the Librarians was, “A mis-shelved book is a lost book!”   That was so true when you began looking for a particular book that had been mis-shelved, much like looking for a needle in a hay-stack, as the old saying goes.
I love everything about books; the smell of books, that there are so many books and that I could write books.  So here you will find my children’s books; specifically the Mary Jane Series. I hope you will read through these descriptions and let me know if you are interested in purchasing all of the series, or just one or two for your children.  You can email me at
My books are, as I call them, “Fiction based on Fact.”  They are made up stories from my own heart and mind, but the Scripture, and the truths realized from it, are things that we can all learn from and apply to our daily lives.
